Telford Crisis Support has been running a Foodbank for 5 years in Telford & Wrekin. As well as supporting people with food and toiletries, we’ve noticed that there’s been an increase in referrals for new parents that don’t necessarily need food, but need help with items to give their newborn the best start possible.
For 2019, we will be launching a brand new project ‘Telford Baby Bank’ to run alongside the Foodbank. Through this new project we will provide much needed essentials and equipment to mothers and families who are unable to provide these items for themselves; including but not limited to young mums, people seeking asylum, Women or Men fleeing domestic abuse or Family breakdown and trafficking just to name a few reasons.
Working with midwives, health visitors and other professional groups to provide support directly where it is most needed, Volunteers will sort and package a ‘Moses Basket’ of clothing, toiletries and essential baby equipment as an attractive gift to new mothers.
Each basket will contain: Size 1 nappies, Size 2 nappies, baby toiletries (Shampoo, baby bath, baby lotion, baby sponge) Mum/Dad toiletries (shower gel, toothpaste, deodorant, maternity pads, breast pads) baby vests, babygros, outfits, cardigans, baby coat, baby socks, shoes/bootees. 2 hats, 2 pairs of mittens, blankets, moses basket sheets, bibs, baby towel, baby toys, a card and a box of chocs for Mum or Dad.
Referrals will go live in November. This is not a walk in or open referral service and is currently running as a trial with a few select professional groups that will be able to refer to begin with. In 2020 we will be looking to increase the outreach.
This project much like to Foodbank will be reliant upon generous contributions and donations. Please see the wishlist below.
